Out in the Wilderness with the Wild Beasts (Mark 1:9-15)
The wilderness of the world as it was held the possibility of terror, isolation, and death, but after Jesus shows up it's now a place where new possibilities are born—possibilities for a different kind of world in which those who were formerly enemies are now reconciled in peace.
A place where formerly violence was the common denominator of adversarial relationships has become a place where love drives our relationship with one another, where there is no longer Jew or Greek, slave or free, male or female, black or white, gay or straight, resident or foreigner, Isis or American. Now there is no 'them'; there's only 'us' . . . with Jesus standing in between.
